Newsletter #70
All Frequent Flyers of Happiness; please ensure seatbelts are fastened and tables are in the upright position. The weather in Happy City is bright and sunny...
Let me make a brief self introduction. My name is George and I'm delighted to join the Happy City Initiative as editor. Cake, penguins and the novels of Kiran Desai make me happy, unfortunately there are few places I'm able to encounter all three.
Firstly, a big thank you to Mike whose Happiness Spots have been brilliantly informative. You'll be sure to hear from him again soon. We'll be making a slight shift in the format of the newsletters which from now on will be coming out fortnightly. Don't fret, this lets us pack Happinews with the best spots and brings you all the info on what we've been up to in one neat package.
We also have a new point of contact and want to hear what you think of Happinews. Do you have something to say about a spot? Something you'd like us to make some noise about? A little slice of Happiness that could do with some attention? Send it all to newsletter@happycity.org.uk
A Spot of Lovely Food at the Love Food Festival in Bath, Sunday March 4th. Food, fun and festivities for all.
Spot a Way to Fix the Climate at Create your My2050 UK. Can you solve the UK's energy crisis? It's interesting to see how everything hinges dramatically on the Oil, Coal and Gas dial.
A Spot of Celebration for International Women's Day 2012. Fairtrade have organised food, music and excellent speakers to celebrate in Bristol, March 8th. More information and tickets can be found here.
Spot the Costa Rican Happiness in this report at The Scientific American. They argue that human and natural capital must be taken into account alongside monetary. Costa Rica comes up trumps and with 30% of the country being protected natural parks its easy to see why. Time to plant some more trees?
A Spot of Debate in this guardian article which asks some questions about the Action for Happiness movement. They argue that happiness lies in a firm response to inequality rather than individual action but surely we've enough headspace to consider both? There's an interesting debate in the comment section. Why not weigh in?
As always, get involved via the website, facebook and twitter. At Happy City we're all about sharing so why not get a friend to sign up for some Happy Spots?
