More about Happy City
We are working to support a groundswell of interest, understanding and action to reverse the current societal fixation with economic growth and consumption as the route to wellbeing and the sole measure of 'success'. We are helping people redefine for themselves the notion of 'prosperity' and 'poverty' - away from purely economic measures and towards a reflection of what really matters to people and planet. We are uncovering the many things - large and small - that really make a positive difference in people's lives - and then sharing that learning so others can do more of what works to start overcoming the challenges we face together.
The practical skills we share help to transform lives and communities. We support and coordinate bottom up campaigning and communication activities, alongside local projects that tap into the passions of people of all backgrounds, ages, faiths and outlooks.
Happy City works at all levels, from local groups and community centres through to National stages with policy makers and researchers, and much in between. This ensures that the growing interest in Happiness and Wellbeing in Government and Academia is reflected by real capacity change on the ground AND that what is happening in real communities is understood by and acted upon by those in power.
The project works with the principle that every community, neighbourhood and city has the people, solutions, skills, knowledge and capacity to solve its challenges which are often overlooked by a focus on problems, fear, blame and consumption.
In the coming 6 months there will be a range of pop-up Guerrilla Communications Campaigns, a community film project, a happiness music project, a peoples gallery art project, a happiness wisdom audio project involving refugees & asylum seekers and a Happy Walks programme. Alongside these there will be workshops, talks and happenings at Bristol’s many summer events and festivals.
