5 Ways for Older People

little-book-of-awe-hq-page-001Happy City, in partnership with Bristol Ageing Better and some of its 160 partner groups, has produce The Little Book of Awe.  It is an adaptation of our 5 Ways to Wellbeing materials, and aim to support the over 50’s to Age Well Everyday.

The materials were co-created with a wide range of older people across Bristol’s diverse communities, and brings the 5 Ways to Wellbeing to life for this age group. The process included the privilege of exploring with older people in Bristol, the different ways they already find happiness and take care of their wellbeing. We heard about some amazingly simple and creative approaches.  For example one 98 year old Bristol resident told us,  ‘My secret to a happy long life is simple. At the end of each day I ask myself, what have I done today to make a difference?’

With their support we produced The Little Book of Awe.  Aimed at sharing simple ideas for Ageing Well Everyday, it offers stories of the different ways older people can look after themselves, whatever their circumstances.

Alongside these materials, Happy City and BAB are developing 2 unique training programme for Older People:

Wellbeing Champions for people working with Older Groups.  This is a programme which trains individuals who want to support a wellbeing and resilience approach across their community.  It gives participants the skills, materials and confidence needed to deliver wellbeing activities to their peers, including workshops, mentoring and individual support.  If you or your organisation or community would like to apply for this programme get in touch at training@happycity.org
